Changing winds
A new era for Thrifted Design Leadership; welcoming Dilettante Design Consulting
Long time, no email. How are you doing?
This will not be one of those overblown, “I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in forever, here’s all the life shenanigans I’ve had, please pity me” update emails. We’re better than that!
I’m a dilettante by nature. I follow my interests, and do a lot of things, mediocrely. Updating a regular newsletter is one of them. What can I say, at least I know myself!
This blog will continue! Justy maybe in a slightly less regular form than previously.
My career break was amazing, soul-enriching and probably the best gift I’ve given myself. I took the time to have enriching conversations about work, life, and the role of design in it- some of which you’ve seen badly replicated in this blog.
From these conversations, I realised that a life of dilettantism, of following my passions in design and art and games and education and technology and futurism, could fullfill me both creatively, financially and spiritulaly. So, I might as well give it a go!
From this was born Dilettante Design Consulting! 💖
We help clients across the games and entertainment spaces with their juciest design problems, from journey mapping, to UX auditing, to UI art direction!
Indeed, I’ve already been working with Glowmade on what they’ve got cooking (👀), doing UX aditing and FTUE mapping for Kinder World, and even helping print a photography book with Chris Wilson!
The blog will continue! Honestly, it’s just hard to put out hastag quality content when you’re also setting up a business. A few topics I’m thinking of next are
How to set up your own creative business
What UX consultants do in games
Managing your time as a creative freelancer
Is there anything else you’d like to hear from me? Let me know!
ALSO!! I am at Develop Conference in Brighton this week (11th to 14th July), reppin’ the biz (god my boss babe era is going to be insufferable), drinking margaritas and generally being a nuisance. If you have an indie game or creative project that could use my dilettantisms- drop me an email and we’ll get a coffee/margarita!
I offer flexible rates depending on the project and team size (a whole other post in itself), and available for consulting through this year, and full-time remote work from early 2024. I’m particularly interested in
Indie teams with cool folks
Experimental games - things that push the bounadry between games and tech
Lifestyle games
OTOME GAMES!!! If you are making a romance game I will literally pay YOU to be able to be a part of it lmao
Exploring an area of design I haven’t yet had the chance to ✨😊
Peace out, and see you on the beach or on the blog!
Cait x
Awesome! Good luck on this new path, and please share with us your experiences — and those experimental games as well :D
